Smith Mountain Lake State Park, located in Huddleston, VA, has something for everyone. It was voted American's Best. For more information visit the website www.dcr.state.va.us The pictures below were shot on April 12, 2009-it was a beautiful warm day. Children were enjoying the beach, adults soaking up the rays taking walks and biking, and families were camping. There were a lot of bass boats on the water with fishermen just waiting for that big catch. We were surprised to see so many campers. There were all sizes of trailers and even a tent. There were many people renting the cabins as well. Some of the cabins are located on the water, and others in the woods. There were plenty of day docks in several locations for boaters.
A park employee let us in one of the cabins. I was expecting the cabins to be like those that we used to rent -- you know, the old musty smell lingering, and furniture that needed a good cleaning. But, I was pleasantly surprised to see how clean the facilities were and very comfortable as well. The cabins have a nice kitchen with everything you need to prepare a good meal -- maybe those fish that the family caught that day! There are two bedroom cabins that sleep 6 and three bedrooms that sleep 8.
